GAMES AND TOYS IN ANCIENT WORLD

Games as “thread of human journey” and all the values attributed by ancient Greeks, Etruscans and Romans to the ludic sphere are the main topics of this conference lead by the archaeologist Stefano de’Siena. In 2009 he published the essay “Games and Toys in classical world” (Mucchi Editor) and inaugurated an itinerant laboratory about the games of Greeks and Romans. As a supporter of “ludic-didactic”, he also leads the course “Archaeology as a game” in primary and secondary schools.

It would be delineated the state of the art of research and of the studies about traditional game by reflecting on and comparing educative and formative systems, by giving the instruments to investigate the meaning and the value of the game customs during the different ages of life. Then, it would be investigated what the involved competences are and how they can be transferred to other fields of formative activities.

THE ITALIAN NET OF POPULAR CULTURE

The Italian Net of Popular Culture, in strict relationship to the Italian Provinces and to other organizations, among which the Ancient Games Association, is working in order to identify and valorise that knowledge which is often transferred just orally and which risks every day to disappear forever. This meeting is dedicated to illustrate all the net’s activities and to the research of volunteers who would act as “antennas” by pointing out the real garrisons of oral culture, necessary to the “passing of the baton”.
