The Ancient Games Association (A.G.A.) was born in Verona in 2002, gather together a group of players keen on traditional games who began to meet up periodically, involving more and more persons in the practice and in the study of traditional sports and games. Our goal is to promote the rediscovery and the diffusion of traditional street games which were common during past centuries.

Our mission is:

• To let people know traditional games (to do that we make links with schools, municipalities, university, other associations…)
• To reevaluate streets and square where originally these games took place (we take part in several activities organized  and supported by Verona City Council in order to improve citizen’s life style and the whole city life) .
• To organize festivals and cultural events promoting traditional games and supporting the reuse of public spaces (E.g. Tocatì, or S-cianco championship which get almost 300 players involved during three months) .
• To analise which use of city centre and geographical resources was done in the past.
• To undertake studies and researches with other associations, universities,  institutions, enterprises, local – national – international organizations,…
• To study games communities and to appreciate them (A.G.A. is collecting and cataloguing historic games for a permanent exhibition which will be setted up in our headquarters) .
• Particularly the project of  “Games Guardians” lies at our heart. This project will discover and place a value on communities where still now players use ancient rules, just to get a kick out of this practice and not for folklore or for tourist interests. The goal is to achieve a map of traditional games communities, first of Italy and then of abroad.

The Ancient Games Association needs support and collaboration by everybody in order to reach our goals. Today the members are almost  400. If you share our ideas, become a member and help us to preserve traditional games.
